Unlike many famous cities and world centers, Ludbreg is the only town located in the center of the World. It is the town of miracles and legends which will enchant its every guest by the combination of religious, historical, scientific and artistic material, interesting stories, distinctive sense of humor and unconditional hospitality.
Ludbreg’s shrine of the Most Precious Blood of Christ, a unique holy place in Croatia and rare in the Christian world was recognised by the Decree of Pope Leo X in 1513, after the miraculous event in 1411, when in the small chapel of a manor house the Holy Blood of Christ miraculously appeared during the Holy Mass.
Today, the Batthyany Castle is the home to Ludbreg Department for Conservation, a cultural institution of international importance, whereas the chapel of St. Cross displays the permanent exhibition of historical archives concerning the town’s history.
The Votive Chapel of the Croatian Parliament, which was built as a vow of the Croatian Parliament in 1739, together with the Stations of the Cross, forms a unique permanent exhibition of outdoor Murano glass mosaic, and ever since the 18th century, the Relic – a small vial with the Blood of Christ – has been kept in the monstrance (ostensory), made in 1721, in the parish church of the Most Holy Trinity.
The center of the World lies exactly in Ludbreg, as well as the tallest St. Vincent statue in the world, whose unique belvedere is situated in the midst of the viticultural hills of Ludbreška Podravina.
