Stari Puntijar Presents Elegant Gala Dinners with Live Classical Music

The Puntijar family in Gračani, Zagreb, has been nurturing the art of hospitality for centuries, transforming gastronomy into a truly memorable experience. The family name first appears in historical records in 1581, and through the generations it has become a symbol of refined tradition, table culture, and exceptional cuisine.

The hospitality story began in 1838 in Gračani. From that time until today, across six generations, the Puntijar family has welcomed and hosted guests from all over the world with the same passion. Over nearly two centuries, a place has been created where history, elegance, and gastronomy meet in a unique setting at the foot of Zagreb’s Medvednica mountain. Today, Restaurant Stari Puntijar represents a place where tradition and outstanding culinary artistry blend into an unforgettable gastronomic experience. Every detail, from the elegantly set table to the carefully designed menu, is crafted with the same care and respect for the guest that the Puntijar family has cultivated for generations.

At the heart of this house lives a simple philosophy shared by great restaurants: a true gastronomic experience has two hearts, one in the kitchen and the other in the wine cellar. In the Puntijar kitchen, specialties inspired by historical recipes from old European cookbooks are prepared, while the wine story encompasses an impressive collection of more than 400 carefully selected labels. Of special significance is also the largest private collection of cookbooks in Europe, with more than two thousand titles, preserved in the Gastronomy Museum “Sveti Vid”, located within the Stari Puntijar complex.

Gala Dinners with Classical Music at Stari Puntijar

A special dimension of the experience is created through gala dinners accompanied by classical music – an innovative concept that unites art, history, and gastronomy. Every Friday, Stari Puntijar transforms into an intimate stage where a three-course dinner featuring dishes inspired by historical recipes is served while the space is filled with the sounds of classical music performed by an orchestra. Guests can simultaneously enjoy, for example, the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and a menu inspired by the 1709 cookbook of Princess Eleonore Maria Rosalia, published under the title “Ljekaruše i recepti” (“Remedies and Recipes”), creating memories of a dinner that awakens all the senses.

Family recipes have been carefully passed down and refined through generations, while wines have been selected and preserved for centuries in the old wine cellar to perfectly accompany each dish. The knowledgeable and warm staff will gladly recommend the ideal wine pairing for every course, creating a harmony of flavors that lingers long in the memory.

At Restaurant Stari Puntijar, gastronomy is not merely a meal, it is a journey through time, tradition, and culture. Here, every dish carries its own story, and every guest becomes part of one of Zagreb’s longest-standing culinary traditions.
