The International Carnival Parade in Rijeka is the jewel in the crown of the carnival festivities in Kvarner.
The lavish and vibrant programme of the Riječki karneval 2026 will reach its magnificent climax on Sunday, 15 February, when the long-awaited International Carnival Parade takes over Korzo at noon. Yet this grand finale is only the crown of a weekend during which Rijeka transforms into an open-air stage – a city of music, dance, tradition, satire and heartfelt humanitarian spirit.
Friday, 13 February – Warming Up with Rhythm and Nostalgia
The carnival magic begins in the evening with a colourful blend of sounds and masks. Buffet Bar “Iskra” hosts the lively Čiket Retro Party, while fans of contemporary rock can head to Exportdrvo for an energetic concert by Silente. The traditional spirit of the carnival will also come alive at the Maškarani Tanci va Pašcu (Masked Dance in Pašac), an evening filled with laughter, dancing and authentic coastal charm.
Saturday, 14 February – A Day of Generosity and Glamour
Saturday begins with irresistible aromas that warm both heart and soul. Carnival minestrone will be prepared in Bazarigov Prolaz, while Trg Republike Hrvatske will be filled with the scent of traditional jota. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., members of the Udruženje obrtnika Rijeka will cook this beloved dish, with voluntary donations supporting the Udruga Jako srce in equipping its premises with medical equipment for the prevention and monitoring of cardiovascular diseases. Once again, the carnival proves it has a truly big heart.
The afternoon is reserved for the youngest participants at the Children’s Reduta in Kozala, bringing joy, creativity and playful imagination to the forefront.
As night falls, the atmosphere turns golden and glamorous. Exportdrvo will host a Charity Gala Party inspired by the dazzling “Roaring Twenties” from 9 p.m., while the Čiket Pyjama Party lights up Buffet Bar “Iskra”. Masked dances in Zamet will further ignite the festive spirit, reminding everyone that during carnival there is no boundary between performer and audience – all become part of the same story.
Sunday, 15 February – The Spectacle of Masks
At exactly noon, the magnificent International Carnival Parade begins. Around one hundred local and international groups will parade through the city centre with impressive floats, imaginative costumes and witty satirical messages – celebrating creativity and freedom of expression.
From 2 p.m., Kont hosts the Masquerade Open Air with local and international DJs, while Exportdrvo continues the festivities from 6 p.m. with the party programme Taking the Trash Out (KPP). The final note of the carnival weekend will be struck by a concert from Koktelsi, bringing this unforgettable edition of Rijeka’s “fifth season” to a joyful close.
Once again, the Rijeka Carnival affirms its role as a platform of unity and freedom – inviting citizens and visitors alike to become whoever they wish to be, to surrender to imagination and joy, and to create memories that last a lifetime.
