It’s that time of year again, when wooden horses pop up from almost every corner of the Hrvatsko Zagorje. You guessed it, it’s the fourth edition of the museum-educational program On Horseback to the Museums!

Museum educators and curators of the organizational units of the Museums of Hrvatsko Zagorje (Veliki Tabor Castle, Antun Augustinčić Gallery, Krapina Neanderthal Museum, Museum of Peasants’ Revolts and the “Old village” Museum Kumrovec) have once again worked hard and provided individual visitors, children and families with the opportunity to spend their autumn weekends in an educational, entertaining and creative way.
This year’s program, due to the All Saints’ Day , will be somewhat shorter, from November 8 to December 6. During the first four weekends, museum-educational workshops will be held in all units of the MHZ (each museum will prepare a total of three workshops during these weekends according to the attached schedule), while on Saturday, December 6, exactly on Saint Nicholas Day, we will gather at the closing ceremony in the “Old village” Museum Kumrovec.
The common theme of the program is the horse, which, through workshops and museum-educational publication, each of our museums deals with in a different way, with a corresponding sub-theme. Thus, workshop participants at the Veliki Tabor Castle will learn more about the use of horses for transportation, with a special emphasis on carriages, at the Antun Augustinčić Gallery they will deal with horses in art, while at the Krapina Neanderthal Museum they will learn about the past and evolution of horses. The Museum of Peasants’ Revolts will tell the story of military horses and knights, and the “Old village” Museum Kumrovec about horses as toys.

Choose the first museum you will visit and participate in its workshop and announce your arrival by filling out the form on the Google Forms platform. Upon arrival, you will pay 6 euros* at the entrance, the price of one workshop, which per child/participant includes:
a wooden horse
workshop work (depending on the theme of the individual museum – painting, adding, dressing the horse)**
a museum-educational publication of the program with stickers
an invitation to the closing ceremony that the child signs, collects stamps at each of the workshops they visit, and uses at the closing ceremony to draw the main prize
the possibility of FREE participation in workshops in all other museums (in total, it is possible to participate in five different workshops for the price of one)
participation in the closing ceremony on December 6, 2025 and the draw for the main prize provided by the Center Ritam s konjem from Stubičke Toplice.
* Tickets for visiting the museum’s permanent exhibitions will be charged separately.
** The workshop at the Antun Augustinčić Gallery is completely changing this year, while other museums have also prepared additional content for all children and families who have already participated in the program in previous years. So, regardless of the number of previous participants, you are welcome to come again!
The closing ceremony of the program will be held at the “Old village” Museum in Kumrovec on Saturday, December 6 (St. Nicholas’ Day), starting at 11 a.m. All children will have the opportunity to participate in any of the five workshops and ride in a carriage. St. Nicholas and Krampus are expected to arrive at around 12:30 p.m. to hand out gifts to the children. At 1 p.m., we will draw the main prize and give out additional prizes to participants who attended a total of four or five workshops.
At the closing ceremony, stamps will no longer be collected, but participants will place their signed invitations in a prize drawing box. St. Nicholas will take this box with him and we will draw the main prize from it.

The workshops of the Museum of Peasants’ Revolts (Samci 64, Gornja Stubica), which is closed to visitors due to renovations, will once again be held in the premises of the Veliki Tabor Castle (Hum Košnički 1, Desinić).
You can find all additional information about the program on its Facebook and Instagram pages, social networks and the MHZ website, as well as on the social networks and websites of each of the MHZ organizational units. Last year’s QR code from the Qurko application will be relevant again, and you will find it on our promotional materials, but also in the museum premises, and by scanning it from the application you will always be up to date with news related to the program.
